Theodore Ganiats, MD is Professor and Interim Chair in the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine. He is also the Executive Director of the UCSD Health Services Research Center. Dr Ganiats attended the UCSD School of Medicine where he completed both his medical degree and his Family Medicine residency. He is a member of many professional associations, including the Society for Medical Decision Making, Academy Health, the American Public Health Association and the International Society for Quality of Life Research.
Dr Ganiats has delivered over 100 lectures throughout the US and Europe. In addition, he was a member or chair of over 30 national guideline and quality/performance panels spanning multiple disciplines. He represents the American Academy of Family Physicians on both the Operations Group for the National Diabetes Quality Improvement Alliance (NDQIA) and the National Cholesterol Education Program's Coordinating Committee.
Dr Ganiats' research interests involve outcomes research, focusing on quality of life assessment and cost-effectiveness analysis. He has served as a study section member on both American Heart Association (AHA) and NHLBI study sections and an NIH DSMB. He has been published in over 100 peer-reviewed journals, such as Diabetes Care, Medical Care, and the American Journal of Preventive Medicine. Currently, he is on the editorial boards of the Journal of Family Practice and Family Practice News.
